Season's Greetings from Gidgee Healing

Season's Greetings from Gidgee Healing

23rd December 2025

The Board and staff of Gidgee Healing wish all of our members and communities a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday season.

What a year 2025 has been.  Whilst we are far from immune from global events, there are many times when our relative remoteness feels like a major positive!  At other times it truly feels like we are out of sight and mind of most Australians.  With ongoing war in the Ukraine and a continuation of the ageless conflict in Israel and Palestine always more attractive to the media than addressing our own problems, Gidgee people are proud to be agents of local action to help the communities of our region with health and wellbeing.

Gidgee’s many achievements during 2025 are not always the stuff of which headlines are made, however they have been significant and every day sees our 130+ staff contributing to improvements in our service delivery, led from the front by our clinical and program teams.

In 2026, we look forward to further improving Gidgee.  We will continue our outstanding work toward ending Rheumatic Heart Disease in our region; look forward to a major enhancement in mental health services for young people; and of course continuing our day-to-day operations in clinics and programs, led as they are by our wonderful Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners.  In addition, we will welcome the commencement of local community control in Mornington Island health services through Ngarnal ACCHS, as Gidgee's services are progressively transitioned over to the new local provider.

With the world becoming a sometimes stranger place, for example with the rapid evolution of information technology; increasingly challenging climate change impacts; turbulence in what is considered ‘normal’ politics; and unreliable media; we are increasingly reliant on strong local communities and organisations to provide a sense of calm, assurance and certainty.

The people of Gidgee recognise our central role in providing services that help with the health, wellbeing and community support that is needed in challenging times.  We look forward to our ongoing engagement with you all in 2026.
