The Momentim program is aiming to improve the mental health of young men in Mount Isa.
Momentim facilitator Ken Leon said males aged between 17 and 25 were the target audience.
“It is all about men talking about mental health issues and that if there are any issues that they should get on top of it straight away,” he said.
“There is a really big need for it out here, particularly men’s mental health. It is really important for young boys to talk about their issues because it could lead to more chronic issues in the future.”
The program has been introduced into high schools in the area, with about 17 boys regularly attending a session on Tuesdays.
The program officially started on October 22 and is funded until July 2017.
The new Indigenous Men’s Group is holding meetings every Thursday at the Neighbourhood Centre on Marian Street between 10am and 11.30am until December 10.
Men between 17 and 25 who need help are encouraged to contact Ken Leon on 44371304 or 0447315323.
